Spot The Troll Quiz Used By Over 600,000 in the First 2 Weeks Since Launch

We worked closely with Clemson Professors Darren Linvill and Patrick Warren to create a close look at how disinformation spreads through social media accounts. The result is an interactive online quiz named Spot The Troll that launched in September 2020. News outlets across the country including USA Today, Charlotte Observer, and The Today Show have reported on the quiz. Clemson University was pleased that the quiz was visited by more than 600,000 unique users in the first two weeks. Visitors to the website have spent an average of more than 7 1/2 minutes completing the quiz and learning more about how to recognize posts that are created by trolls.

The initial results from our analysis of how people are answering the eight questions posed by the quiz are not surprising. Across five different age ranges, from 18 - 24 years olds to 65 years old and above, we’ve found that all ages are failing badly. No group has scored above 62% correct. Despite the attention that online disinformation being spread by foreign entities has been given in government reports and the press as of late, Americans still have a lot to learn. Stay tuned for more results as Spot The Troll continues to go viral.
