Converting Battlefields.org from Drupal 7 to Drupal 8

The American Battlefield Trust has a mission to “Preserve our nation’s hallowed battlegrounds and educate the public about what happened there and why it matters.” Their website is an immense storehouse of knowledge about wars fought within our borders with a specific focus on Civil War-related content. The site also is the main source of information on current battlefield preservation projects and opportunities to support this effort through membership and donations. Interactive Knowledge has been maintaining the website, Battlefields.org, since 2018 and is about to convert the site from Drupal 7 to Drupal 8. As Drupal 7 approaches end-of-life in 2021, many of our clients are updating their websites and converting to Drupal 8. 

Battlefields.org is one of the most visited websites in our portfolio. The educational mandate of American Battlefield Trust relies on access to its unique content including biographies, articles, animated maps, videos and annotated 360-degree photographs of dozens of battlefields. The Drupal conversion will keep this content accessible. We will work closely with the American Battlefield Trust team to update the user experience and content strategy so the content is easy to find. Throughout the process, we will test our ideas for new navigation and page design with their audience. The new site will be ready for use before the end of 2020.
